Ash Fall from a Plinian Eruption of Redoubt Volcano, Alaska

Aerial photo of Redoubt’s southern flank and of mountains south of the volcano, entirely covered by a thick layer of ash from the plinian eruption occurred just six hours before. The fresh snow from a snowstorm occurred a day before on a peak in the foreground out of the ashfall makes a striking contrast with the ash-grey landscape just a few km behind.
